Oxford, MA – IPG Photonics Corp. introduces LightWELD, a new handheld laser welding system.According to IPG Photonics, the LightWELD product line enables manufacturers to benefit from the greater flexibility, precision and ease-of-use that laser-based solutions offer over traditional welding products.
LightWELD is designed and manufactured using patented and patent-pending IPG fiber laser technology with small size and weight and air cooling.The company says LightWELD enables fast welding, easy handling and consistent results on a variety of materials and thicknesses, with low heat input and an aesthetically pleasing finish, with minimal or no filler wire.According to IPG Photonics, controls including 74 stored presets and user-defined process parameters allow novice welders to train and weld quickly, with LightWELD deforming, warping, undercutting or burning when welding thick, thin and reflective metals. LightWELD offers swing welding, which can provide up to 5mm of additional weld width.Other standard features include a 5-meter delivery cable for increased part contact, connections for gas and external connections, multi-level sensors and interlocks for operator safety, and wobble/scanning for wire feeder and welding tip support Functional laser torches are configured to best match the joint type.
